How can I register a DNS?
Contact our technical assistance from the ‘Request Assistance’ section of your control panel and specify the DNS name you want to register and its associated IP address. If the domain it is associated with is maintained by Register.it, we will register the DNS.
How long does it take before the DNS change is active?
After 24/48 hours of the change. If the change involves a .it, weekends do not count, since the Italian Registration Authority is not working on week ends.
Why does DNS need to be registered?
For gTLD (.com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .name) the Authority imposes the dns to be registered.
can I register DNS with the .it extension?
Yes, you can register a DNS with a .it extension from your Control Panel, but only if the domain the DNS name is associated with is managed by us.
How can I change my domain's DNS?
Access the DNS section of your control panel and start the DNS change operation by specifying at least two valid DNS. If the indicated DNS are correct, the operation will be completed in 24/48 hours.
Is DNS registration free of charge?
Yes, it is completely free.
Can Register.it impose the change, in the case the DNS were not accepted by the Authority?
No, if the indicated DNS don’t fulfil the characteristics required by the competent Authority, Register.it can only help you identify the problem, but it is your DNS manager who will have to solve the problem before performing the change of DNS operation.
What do I have to do to change the IP address associated with a DNS?
For .it domains, you must contact the hostmaster of your dns to request updating, and, afterwards, perform a dns change for all the .it domains that DNS is associated with.
For com/net/org/info/biz domains, you must contact the Registrar that registered those DNS. If Register.it registered your DNS, you must submit a request from the form ‘Request Assistance’ of your control panel, by specifying that you want to change the IP addresses. Attention: requesting the change of DNS by indicating the IP address will not actually change those addresses.
Where can I check whether a DSN has been registered?
You can check whether a DNS has been registered at the following address: a href='http://www.internic.net/whois.html'>http://www.internic.net/whois.html
I am using my DNS, can I pass to Register.it DNS?
Yes, if the domain has been registered or transferred to Register.it, you can pass to Register.it DNS from the domain DNS section of your control panel.
The change of DNS operation that I started from my control panel tells me that an error was encountered, why?
If the change of DNS operation tells you that an error was encountered, this means that the DNS haven’t passed the automatic controls, probably because they haven’t been correctly configured or registered. In this case, you can send us a request by specifying in the form the name of the domain/s you want to transfer and the DNS you want to insert. Should we encounter problems related to the indicated DNS, we will contact you.
Who decides the DNS acceptance rules?
EvEvery Authority establishes for their own TLD the characteristics that the DNS must have. Register.it cannot avoid these rules or force the DNS acceptance.
The Authoirty has rejected my DNS; can you solve the problem?
No, we cannot manage any DNS other than Register.it's. You must contact your DNS provider for solving the problems encountered with the Authority.
Whoi registers a DNS?
DNS must be registered by the registrar/maintainer of the domain the DNS is associated with. If, for instance, you want to register dns.pippo.com, you must contact the registrar maintaining the domain pippo.com.
I have just registered a ‘.it’ domain. Why can’t I request a DNS change or change the DNS configurations?
To modify the DNS for a ‘.it’ domain that has just been registered, you need to wait a few hours so that Nic.it can change the domain status to “Ok”.
This procedure was implemented by Register.it to better protect the customer. If the DNS is not correctly configured for a domain that has just been registered, before the status is “Ok”, Nic.it may delete it after 30 days and without any advanced notice.
