Can I access the Server Farm to manage my server?
For security reason, thi is not allowed. However, you may be able to manage your server from remote.
What type of access is furnished with the Windows Servers?
An Administrator access account and password are specified in the email you receive when you purchase the package. For security reasons, we recommend you immediately change the password which was given. It is then possible to create other users and access priviledges.
How can I configure my pop3/IMAP mailboxes?
Since you have remote access to the server as an administrative user, you can create mailboxes and manage your mail server.
What software is installed onto Windows dedicated servers?
Windows Servers are equipped with the following preinstalled servers:
- Web Server IIS ver. 6.0
- Framework .NET 2.0
- FrontPage Extension ver. 2002
- FTP Server
- SMTP server
- NNTP server
- POP3 server
- Integrated firewall
What software is preinstalled on Linux Dedicated Servers?
Linux Servers is equipped with the following software:
- Apache 2
- MySQL 5

- Sendmail
How is the network configured at the time the Server is delivered?
The DS is delivered with the network interface already configured on the first of the 3 public IP addresses given. We recommend that the network configuration not be modified, to prevent the control of the Server and the then necessary, restoration of the system to the default configuration.
For security reasons, all unnecessary services are blocked, leaving only the minimum number of TCP doors (and related services) open which are necessary for the functioning of the Server itself
Can I install any other software besides the preinstalled one?
It is possible to install any software having regular licence and personalise the software configurations of your server.
Are Windows Servers equipped with firewall?
In the Windows Server 2003 versions an integrated Microsoft firewall is available.
Is it possible to install Microsoft SQL onto Windows Servers?
Yes you can. We would like to remind you, though, that the Standard and Enterprise (not sold anymore) editions support Microsoft SQL Server 2005. If you want, you can purchase it bundled with the server or later from control panel.
What happens if I have no longer remote access to my server ?
For security reasons, once the server has been delivered, Register.it will not be able to access the machine in any way. If you no longer have remote access to your machine because of an incorrect online configuration or because of installed software, the only possible operation will be to reset the server to its original delivery conditions. This will cause loss of the data and/or of the sofware installed after delivery.
Can I install on my machine a different operating system?
No, the user does not have the possibily of installing operating systems. The preinstalled systems are always the latest versions available on the market.
What dedicated server packages does Register.it offer?
The solutions offered by Register.it are organized into 4 plans, Entry, Standard, Advanced and Advanced Plus, with a progressive increase in power and capacity of the server machines. What should I do if I need to restart the server?
Since you have access as an administrative user, you can restart the server autonomously. If this is not possible, you can restart your machine by yourself from your control panel, clicking on the "Hosting e server" link and by selecting the server you want to restart.
What technical level is necessary to be able to use a dedicated server?
Having administrator user access (root for the Linux solutions) you have complete control of your own server's configuration. As a result, you do need to have a good level of knowledge of the operation system you will be using. Undoubtedly, a good system administrator should be able to use the dedicated server's potential to its maximum.
How can I administer my server from a remote location?
For Windows solutions, you can administer the server from a remote location using the Remote Desktop software, included with Windows XP or by downloading the software from:
hhttp://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/tools/rdclientdl.mspx. If you want a product equipped with management and administration, you can purchase Plesk 7 directly with the server or later from your control panel.
For Linux solutions, you can use a SSH program included with the most common Linux distributions; for those that use a Windows program, we recommend the freeware Putty:

How can I have my server reset to its original setting?
If you can no longer access your Dedicated Server, or if you installed some software that damaged its configuration, you can request to have your machine restored to its original setting. Informations about the server restored service can be accessed by clicking on the "Hosting & server" link of your control panel and by selecting the server for which you are requesting a restore.
ATTENTION! Please remember that by resetting your machine to its original setting all the software programs, files and documents installed on the server will be no longer usable.
What is a dedicated server?
A dedicated server is a server machine at your complete disposal hosted within the same web farm used by the DADA Group. This means that the server resources are completely dedicated to your web applications. You will be able to administer the dedicated server in autonomy, configuring it exactly as you want and which programming languages to support. For example, with the Windows 2003 solution you can directly administer the IIS 6.0 configuration to best meet the needs of the domains your server will host.
